What do I need to do before my trip?

Three things: check your phone is compatible, buy your plan, and set up the eSIM — all before you fly.

1. Check your phone works with eSIMs

Use our device compatibility checker to confirm your phone is supported, and check it's unlocked. About 30 seconds, and it saves problems later.

2. Buy your plan

Pick your destination and how much data you'll need — plans run from 1GB up to 100GB (up to 120GB on regional plans) and from 7 days up to 90 days, depending on the destination. If you're unsure how much data, we have a separate article on it.

3. Set up the eSIM at home

Your eSIM is delivered to your email ahead of your trip. Scan the QR code in it from another screen, or enter the details by hand, and follow the prompts — this works at home over Wi-Fi. It's then ready but stays dormant: your plan starts when you connect in your destination, or automatically 30 days after your eSIM is issued if you haven't connected by then. Setting it up doesn't start the clock.

Then, when you land

Switch your phone on. Give it a moment to find a local network; your data starts working and your home number keeps receiving calls and messages. No SIM swap, no airport queue.
