What's the difference between a country plan and a regional plan?

Last updated October 14, 2026

A country plan covers one country on a network we've chosen specifically for it. A regional plan covers many countries on a single eSIM that follows you across borders. Country plans usually give better coverage; regional plans give simpler logistics.

Country plans

Each uses a network chosen for that specific country. Best for trips to a single country, or where you'll spend most of your time in one.

Regional plans

Cover multiple countries within a region on a single eSIM — as you cross borders your phone connects to whichever local network the regional plan works with. The trade-off: that network isn't as deliberately chosen as a country plan, though it's almost always perfectly good. Best for multi-country trips and short hops.

Each regional plan has its own country list, and two plans for the same region can differ, so check the country list on the plan page before you buy. Regional plans are also where the largest sizes live: up to 120GB, against 100GB for a single country.

Which should you choose?

One country: a country plan. Several in one region: a regional plan if your destinations are covered. A mix of regions (say Japan and Spain): separate plans for each.
