How do I set up my eSIM on iPhone?

Last updated October 14, 2026

Scan the QR code in your setup email from another screen, or enter the details by hand, and follow the prompts. Detailed steps below.

There are two ways to set up on iPhone, depending on your situation — they all do the same thing.

Method 1 — Scan QR code (any iOS version)

Use this if the setup email is open on a different device. On your iPhone: Settings > Mobile Service > Add eSIM > Use QR Code, then hold the QR code in the frame. (On iOS 16 or earlier it's "Cellular" instead of "Mobile Service.")

Method 2 — Enter details manually

Use this if the QR code won't scan. The email contains an SM-DP+ address and an activation code: Settings > Mobile Service > Add eSIM > Enter Details Manually, and type them exactly (case-sensitive).

After setup

The eSIM sits dormant until your plan starts — when you connect to a local network in your destination, or automatically 30 days after it's issued if you haven't connected by then. Nothing else to do.
